Overview
Durkan & Sons Ltd delivered specialist groundworks and civil engineering works for OCO Technology at Knowsthorpe Gate in Leeds.
The project involved the construction of a permeable car park incorporating Sustainable Drainage System (SuDS) measures to manage surface water runoff. The works included excavation, sub-base construction, permeable paving, geogrids and geotextiles, precast concrete retaining walls, kerbing and landscaping.
Scope of Works
Excavation & Ground Preparation
Our team carried out the initial excavation and level reduction required to prepare the site for the new car park, including the removal of approximately 280m³ of excavated material.
Sub-base Construction
The car park formation incorporated approximately 100m³ of Type 1 sub-base together with geogrid and geotextile layers to provide reinforcement, separation and filtration within the pavement construction.
Materials included ABG Abgrid 30/30 geogrid and NW9 geotextile, with the stone layers placed and compacted to form the required car park construction.
Permeable Paving & SuDS
Approximately 270m² of permeable parking area was constructed using Sudspave® permeable paving, forming part of the site’s sustainable surface water management system.
The permeable construction allows surface water to pass through the parking surface into the underlying pavement structure, helping to manage runoff at source.
Precast Concrete Retaining Walls
Durkan & Sons installed precast concrete retaining wall units supplied by JP Concrete Products Ltd. The installation comprised 27 L-shaped wall sections together with a corner unit to accommodate changes in level around the car park.
Kerbing & External Works
The package also included pin kerb edging, concrete works around fence posts and associated external works required to complete the car park.
Landscaping
Rootzone 60/40 material was placed within the landscaped planter areas as part of the finished external works.
Project Outcome
The completed works provided OCO Technology with a new permeable parking area incorporating drainage, retaining structures and landscaping within a coordinated groundworks package.
