Overview
Durkan & Sons Ltd were appointed by The Phoenix Works to deliver the complete groundworks and civil engineering package for two concurrent electric vehicle charging infrastructure projects at commercial sites in Greenwich and Bromley-by-Bow, London.
Working within live operational environments, our team completed trenching, duct installation, reinforced concrete charger foundations, feeder pillar bases and surface reinstatement while maintaining safe access for staff, vehicles and pedestrians throughout the construction programme.
Both projects were successfully delivered within a five-day programme, demonstrating our capability to deliver EV charging infrastructure safely, efficiently and with minimal disruption to operational sites.
Key Deliverables
Groundworks & Excavation
- Hand and machine excavation through reinforced concrete, block paving and flag paving.
- Over 100 metres of service trench excavation.
- Excavation within live commercial environments.
- Traffic and pedestrian management throughout the works.
Foundations & Reinforced Concrete Works
- Construction of reinforced concrete feeder pillar bases.
- Installation of eight reinforced concrete EV charger plinths.
- Concrete casting to client specifications.
- Preparation for charger installation.
Ducting & Infrastructure
- Installation of 110mm and 50mm electrical ducting.
- Installation of feeder pillar connections.
- Construction of earth rod pits and service chambers.
- Utility coordination and cable route preparation.
External Works & Reinstatement
- Foam concrete backfilling.
- Block paving and flag paving reinstatement.
- Concrete surface reinstatement.
- Full reinstatement of all working areas.
Digital Delivery & Quality Assurance
- GPS-based trench and duct route measurement.
- Geo-tagged photographic records and digital site inspections.
- Daily plant and vehicle safety inspections.
- Digital quality assurance and compliance reporting.
- Complete traceability through our in-house mobile reporting system.
Project Outcome
The Greenwich and Bromley-by-Bow projects were successfully completed within programme, providing the civil engineering infrastructure required for the installation of new commercial EV charging facilities.
Durkan & Sons delivered both schemes safely and efficiently with no reported service strikes or safety incidents, while maintaining full operational access and providing comprehensive digital quality assurance throughout the works.
