Overview
Durkan & Sons Ltd were appointed by Jack Lunn Group to deliver the complete groundworks package for a residential development at Hendford Drive, Bradford.
The project involved the construction of 28 new homes on a technically challenging site with restricted access, complex ground conditions and numerous live underground services. A combination of piled foundations, traditional strip foundations and deep trench fill foundations was required to suit varying ground conditions across the development.
Working closely with the client, designers and utility providers, our team carefully coordinated all excavation and infrastructure works while maintaining safe operations around existing services. Through careful planning and value engineering, the site layout was successfully amended to accommodate an additional dwelling, increasing the development from 27 to 28 homes.

Groundworks & Excavation
- Bulk excavation and site preparation.

- Safe working around high voltage electrical cables, BT trunk services, communications cabling and a 450mm gas main.
- Testing and commissioning of drainage systems.
Roads & External Works
- Section 278 highway works.
- Construction of estate roads and footpaths.
- Kerbing, paving and hard landscaping.
- Completion of external works throughout the development.
Project Outcome
The Hendford Drive development was successfully completed despite significant engineering and logistical challenges.
Through careful planning, technical expertise and close coordination with utility providers, Durkan & Sons safely delivered the complete groundworks package while overcoming complex ground conditions and existing service constraints. The revised site layout also enabled an additional property to be constructed, increasing the overall development from 27 to 28 homes.
