Project Overview

Durkan & Sons Ltd were appointed as principal contractor for two concurrent EV infrastructure projects at a warehouse facility in Greenwich and an office site in Bromley-by-Bow. Works included trenching, ducting, charger plinth construction, and feeder pillar installation, all delivered in live operational environments with public access constraints.

Scope of Works (Both Sites)

  • Ducting Installed: 110mm and 50mm twin ducting over 100m+
  • Excavation: Hand and machine excavation through concrete, flag, and block paving
  • Feeder Pillar Bases: 2100mm x 600mm excavations and concrete casts at both sites
  • EV Charger Bases: 8x 450mm concrete plinths
  • Reinstatement: Foam concrete, flagged and block paved surface reinstatement

Site Delivery Summary

Site 1 – Warehouse, Greenwich (Menzies, SE10)

  • 150mm wide trenching in reinforced concrete apron (12m+)
  • Feeder pillar base excavation and casting
  • Road plates used to reopen access midweek
  • Delivered in 2 visits for minimal disruption

Site 2 – Offices, Bromley-by-Bow (Twelvetrees Crescent, E3)

  • 3 civils locations with duct routes totalling 100m+
  • 8x 50mm ducts, 8x charger plinths, 3x earth rod pits
  • Feeder pillar base and chamber link-up
  • Maintained 1.2m+ pedestrian access at all times

Digital Delivery, Safety & GPS Site Measurement

Durkan & Sons used its in-house mobile app across both sites to ensure live progress tracking, compliance, and site record accuracy.

Crews completed:

  • Street Works Start Right and End of Shift forms
  • Daily Plant Safety Inspections
  • Daily Van Walkaround Inspections
  • GPS-based duct and trench measurement logs

Each form included:

  • Geo-tagging, photo uploads, digital signatures
  • Timestamped entries synced to H&S system for traceability

This digital-first system ensured every trench, route, and asset was logged and signed off accurately before reinstatement.

Project Outcome

  • Works completed across both sites between 4–9 December 2023
  • No safety incidents, service strikes, or defects recorded
  • Feeder pillars and plinths cast to spec and positioned as per design
  • Praised by the client for coordination, safety management, and reporting
