Durkan & Sons Ltd is looking for an experienced HGV Tipper Driver to join our team, based at our yard in Kellington, North Yorkshire.
You will mainly drive a 32-tonne rigid tipper, delivering aggregates and construction materials to our sites and removing soil and excavated material to approved disposal facilities.
The role involves working between our yard, quarries, suppliers and construction sites across Yorkshire. We’re looking for someone reliable, punctual and experienced in operating tippers safely.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Driving a 32-tonne tipper to support our groundworks and civil engineering projects.
- Collecting and delivering aggregates and other bulk construction materials.
- Removing soil and excavated material from sites to approved disposal facilities.
- Occasionally driving other vehicles within the company fleet, where you hold the appropriate licence and have completed any required training.
- Following safe loading, sheeting and tipping procedures.
- Checking loads and keeping within vehicle and axle weight limits.
- Following site traffic plans and instructions from site teams and banksmen.
- Completing daily vehicle checks and reporting defects promptly.
- Keeping accurate delivery records, weighbridge tickets and waste transfer documentation where required.
- Following drivers’ hours, tachograph and working time requirements.
- Keeping the vehicle clean, organised and ready for work.
- Communicating with the office and site teams about collections, deliveries and delays.
Qualifications and Licences
Essential
- Valid Category C (Class 2) driving licence.
- Valid Driver CPC qualification card.
- Valid digital tachograph driver card.
Desirable
- A valid CSCS card, or working towards obtaining one.
- Relevant tipper operation or construction-site safety training.
Experience and Skills
- Previous experience driving HGV tippers.
- Experience delivering aggregates and removing excavated material from construction sites.
- A good understanding of safe loading, tipping and vehicle weight limits.
- Confidence driving on construction sites and uneven ground.
- Good knowledge of Yorkshire and the surrounding road network.
- A sound understanding of drivers’ hours and tachograph requirements.
- Comfortable using a phone or tablet to complete vehicle checks and digital records.
- Reliable, punctual and able to work independently.
- Good communication skills and a safe, professional approach.
